Effective hair removal home treatments

Body hair can be a problem for most women who want to get rid of it. It is possible to remove hair at home and not rush to a salon to get yourself waxed. We look at some of the most effective hair removal treatments.

Shaving
There is no doubt that the most effective hair removal treatment FOR both men and women is shaving. It is easy to do at home and pretty inexpensive. All you need is a razor and shaving cream. Things to keep in mind while trying this method at home are:

  • Thanks to the quality of products available in the market, it is a safe method and cuts and nicks are unlikely to occur.
  • Ensure that your skin is clean before you shave to ensure a close shave with the best result.
  • Always shave in the direction of hair growth and keep rinsing the razor to remove hair.
  • Armpits, hands, and legs are the ideal places to shave. Shaving around the bikini area can lead to ingrown hair and you may want to consider some other methods to avoid rash and cuts.
  • Make sure you replace the razor regularly to avoid injuries.
  • If you do not like using a razor, you can use an electric razor. The chances of getting cut are almost zero.
  • Once you are done, apply a moisturizer or oil to your skin to soothe it and to avoid any razor burns.
  • Do note that if you are bothered by the slightest growth, you might have to shave once every three to four days. However, this depends on the hair growth as well.

Tweezing
This is a method targeting individual hair on the body. It is best suited for facial hair. Some things that you need to know when it comes to tweezing are:

  • You need to clean the tweezers before and after use. You can use rubbing alcohol for this to ensure there is no infection.
  • It requires a lot of precision to remove hair. It is easier to remove the hair on your upper lips and eyebrows. However, it does hurt when compared to the fuss-free and pain-free method of shaving.
  • It usually takes around 3 to 8 weeks to regrow. However, this also depends on the rate at which your hair grows. Some might have to tweeze every other week.
  • If you do not do it properly, you can end up with ingrown hair.

Epilation
Epilation is similar to tweezing. However, the difference is that you use a device to do it instead of a tweezer. It can be used on the arms and legs. You need to run the epilator over the hair for it to pluck the hair out. This method can be quite painful.

  • Once removed, you need not have to worry about the hair for at least 3 to 5 weeks.
  • Your skin might feel rough to touch and you might notice some bumps. However, these bumps disappear in a day. Having said that, after using the epilator, it is important to apply oil or moisturizer to soothe your skin.
  • Epilators are one time investments and can be quite expensive as compared to razors.

Waxing
This is without a doubt one of the most painful treatments. It involves applying wax on your limbs or any body part, covering it with a strip, and pulling the strip away to remove hair.

  • This can be quite consuming.
  • Waxing is painful and some people might develop a rash.

The kind of hair removal treatment depends entirely on how your skin reacts to each method. It is advisable to do a patch test to see if your skin develops an intense rash or reaction.
